Over the past academic year (2023/24) we gave EGP 287 Thousand (approx. 15,000 Canadian Dollars) to 46 Female University Students in Egypt to help them continue their studies. We continue to cooperate with Etijah and hope we can reach our 1,000.000EGP target in the coming academic year.
In partnership with Etijah (Youth and Development Consultancy Institute - https://etijah.org) in Egypt, over the academic year 2022/23, we helped 35 girls and women (in two cohorts) cover their educational expenses. With min. awards of 5,000 EGP per beneficiary, at a total of 183,000 EGP, we helped girls and women from different governorates all across Egypt studying in a variety of disciplines.
Lists of cases were proposed to FAEC by Etijah and we selected the beneficiaries who we found most deserving, after a rigorous vetting process.
Educational costs for typical university students in Egypt vary between 10,000 EGP, 30,000 EGP, and more, depending on the discipline. Our awards helped partially cover tuition, accommodation, transport and/or books.
For the second cohort, we significantly increased the number of beneficiaries (from 8 to 27) and the total amount awarded (from 48,000 EGP to 135,000 EGP). For 2023/24, we hope to expand both the awarded total and number of beneficiaries.
This accomplishment is a result of collaborative efforts with our dedicated partner, Etijah, the generous contributions and support of our donors, you, and our ability to keep administrative expenses at the minimum, so most of our funds go to our beneficiaries, a practice we plan to maintain.
Our objective for the 2023/24 academic year, particularly with the growing economic difficulties in Egypt in mind, is to award a total of 1,000,000 EGP (One Million Egyptian Pounds, approx. $45,000 Cdn,) to 200 beneficiaries.
